BRATISLAVA, June 7, (WEBNOVINY) – Slovaks mostly travel to neighboring countries for their holidays. Slovak holiday-makers traditionally visit Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary. Among other popular destinations are Croatia, Egypt, Italy and Bulgaria. The Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry expects that around 660,000 Slovaks will travel abroad this year, which would be an increase of 60,000 in comparison to numbers from last year. According to the ministry, travelers should be careful in choosing their holiday destination and take into consideration significant political changes, which are taking place mainly in the Arab world this year.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry recommends increased caution in traveling to several countries. “People should carefully consider risk in traveling to countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan and they should not travel to border areas at all, as many dangerous situations arise,” warned Jozef Cibula, head of the ministry’s Center for Help and Services to the Public, at a press conference of the department on Tuesday dedicated to the upcoming summer season. The ministry recommends that holiday-makers check for information on its website, also on the safety of traditional destination such as Egypt due to ongoing sociopolitical shifts. As Cibula added, people should respect guidelines issued by local authorities and avoid dressing provocatively and visiting dangerous places. However, popular tourist resorts such as Sharm el Sheikh should be as safe as before, he concluded.
